Bar Stool of the Month for April 2003
This months builder, Howie Sewell does a great job of keeping things
clean and simple. I also requested from Howie Close up photos of his
controls (pedal configuration) as this has recently been a frequently asked
question. Our friend has been kind enough to also include full build photos by
following the link below. Howie's Barstool started with a custom frame by Jeff Doane.
In Howie's words, " I wanted to use all Racing Go Kart Parts (No Yard
Kart Parts) so Jeff put the 1 1/4 Axle Bearing Hangers on it for me . I decide
to use the New Briggs "Animal" OHV Kart Racing Engine (I now know why
they call it an "Animal"). The Front Spindles are 12 degree MarGay's. I
had to alter the front spindle mounts and move the Engine plate over 1 inch to
make the Racing Parts work. The main thing I wanted to do on mine was use foot
pedals and not hand controls. I wanted to keep it simple and not make changes to
the frame so I decided to use a cable operated Brake Pedal and Gas Pedal. A
Local Lawn Mower Racer helped me with the cable for the Brake Pedal to Hydraulic
Master Cylinder, and the pedals are regular Racing Kart Parts. I used a set of
Mini Bike Foot Pegs mounted to the Bar Stool and I had it like I wanted it,
Simple. The only problem is keeping the front wheels on the ground, it will do
wheelies at any time and at any speed. I built the Wheelie Bars just for looks,
not knowing they are now a Safety Item. The complete set of build pic's can be

Thanks and "Keep the Wheel Aimed Straight When You Let It Down"
